StARS - Stray Animal Rights Society

As a network and platform the StARS initiative internationally wants to show and make use of ways to reach a legislation for the protection of animals that is binding for and implemented by all member states of the EU. StARS initiates and promotes the creation of study groups which take over certain tasks within the range of the topic „street animals in the EU“ and work on it.

The European Union must be taken in the duty to take over her responsibility for the street animals as feeling individuals that are in need of legal-protection. In Europe millions of stray animals are in inconceivable agony every day.

The stray animals are being chased and abused, slain and poisoned or serving a “life sentence” in so-called “animal shelters” by the hundreds of thousands. Animal welfare acts do not exist at all or only partly in certain countries, In other countries the existing legal norms in other countries are not observed. In many countries stray animals are a welcome source for personal income: With catching, the "keeping in camps" and the killing of the strays, people can earn a lot of money - diverting tax money from its intended use.

The mass killing of animals is not only ethical and morally despicable, but can also not prevent the snowballing increase of the number of the stray animals. The existence of this substantial Pan-European problem must not be denied any longer. As it helps nothing in the long run to save single animals and to get them to Germany, a lasting change in every country is the best solution - however, this is only possible with using the tolls of politics. This way, lone fighters who have achieved local success so far can become partners of SttARS - a transnational movement which will receive political weight and will have to be taken seriously. Suitable legal action for the keeping and improvement of available laws is taken by StARS lawyers. Our motto is to raise courage to make this vision come true!

More on this topic:

  • StARS needs an efficient infrastructure to be able to develop into a coalition of protection of animals organizations from whole Europe and present these forces as a network.
  • StARS should be a platform of information, because every European country is described concerning its animal welfare problems and the StARS partners active in the country report constantly about topical developments, mismanagement and success.
  • StARS gives more relevance to the street animals by public perception. Transparence and clarification belong to our most important means to success, national and international press and media work - to our tasks.

If StARS generates a public interest, persons responsible and decision-makers from authorities and politics are forced to cooperate and take action. Major animal welfare organizations from all over Europe have already promised their support and cooperation for StARS!

Become a StARS partner too! Your commitment is vital for the stray animals of Europe. Only together we can have an influence on political decision making.
